The User’s Challenge
According to Verizon, hackers are using a combination of phishing and password cracking attacks to steal login credentials with great success.
Once hackers gain access, they can steal the usernames and passwords of any account stored in the browser. With 50% of employees using the same passwords for both business and personal accounts, the risk of password theft and identity theft is even higher.
KnowBe4 Browser Password Inspector
The Browser Password Inspector (BPI) is a security tool that can help you check how exposed your organisation is to weak, repetitive and old passwords stored in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
BPI easily identifies which users have passwords stored in their browsers and checks whether these passwords are also stored in Active Directory. This allows you to take action quickly and alert users to remediate security gaps.
How it works
- Checks that Windows user accounts on your network use passwords that are stored in the browser.
- Checks if the passwords of currently active users in Active Directory are weak or reused.
- Reports accounts for which it has detected such passwords, but does not disclose the passwords.
- It is easy to install and run, you get results in just a few minutes.
Installation requirements: Active Directory, Windows 7 or later (32 or 64-bit)
NOTE: The analysis is performed on the computer on which you install the BPI. Confidential data does not leave your network, actual passwords are never revealed. The BPI tool scans Windows workstations for this case only.
